Pawleys Island is known as the oldest seaside resort on the east coast. This area was favored by the families of the wealthy rice planters in the early 1700′s to escape the heat and disease of the riverside plantations during the summer months. You’ll still find 12 historic houses on the island.. and many other homes that wear the banner of “arrogantly shabby” with pride.
