“If you’re happy in your misery
and determined to remain so, don’t ever go to Pawleys.” (Dorothea Frank)Pawleys Island is really just a small sandbar about 30 miles south of Myrtle Beach and 70 miles north of Charleston. This Atlantic barrier island sits along the Waccamaw Neck which is a narrow penninsula south of Myrtle Beach. The actual town of Pawleys Island only includes this small island and a population of less than 200. However, the whole area known as Pawleys Island includes an unincorporated area on the mainland which stretches from the island over to the Waccamaw River and north to include Litchfield and Litchfield Beaches as well. Pawleys Island is known as the oldest seaside resort on the east coast. This area was favored by the families of the wealthy rice planters in the early 1700’s to escape the heat and disease of the riverside plantations during the summer months. You’ll still find 12 historic houses on the island.. and many other homes that wear the banner of “arrogantly shabby” with pride. Pawleys Island is known for its laid back lifestyle and fierce protection of its natural beauty. Pawleys Island homes for sale are as varied and unique as the island’s history.
Pawleys Island Oceanfront Homes

Pawleys Island Golf Course Homes
If you thought Pawleys was only beaches, marshes, and rivers, you’re really going to be surprised by the incredible golf courses. In fact, drive the short span from one end of Kings River Road to the other and you will pass no less than 8 golf courses: The Founders Club, Heritage Plantation, True Blue, Caledonia, River Club, Litchfield Country Club, Willbrook Plantation, and The Tradition; and that’s not counting The Reserve, Pawleys Plantation, and Debordieu Colony. So while we do take our beachcombing seriously, we like a little golf as well!
